First-born children are more intelligent and it’s thanks to nurture, not nature Read more: http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/20/first-born-children-are-more-intelligent-and-its-thanks-to-nurture-not-nature-5449901/#ixzz3pJP97XGe

First-born children are likely to be more intelligent

If you’re older than your siblings, you’re likely to be smarter than them too.
A new study has shown first-born children get an IQ boost, which is thought to come from having to teach their younger brothers and sisters.
Scientists also suggest that having your parents’ undivided attention means you end up learning more, which benefits the eldest child.
Bad news for the Kendalls and Prince Harrys of this world, then.

Don’t worry, though – the difference in IQ won’t mark any of your family out as a potential brain surgeon.
Scientists at The Leipzig University who carried out the study estimate a 1.5 drop in IQ points per sibling.

However, in a two-child family the eldest won’t necessarily dominate.
They have a six in ten chance of a higher IQ, so their younger relatives still have a strong chance of overtaking them.

As well as demonstrating a heightened intelligence, older children also displayed an increased perception of their brain power.
By that same token, younger siblings tended to see themselves as less bright. Aww.
Despite this trend no differences in personality, such as an outgoing or reliable nature, were noted – against the expectations of the scientists.
The study’s data came from IQ and personality tests from three national

Kindhearted strangers pay medical bill of mum whose photo touched hearts around the world

Sarah Whitney's picture of her feeding her newborn son Kal-El, with her remaining breast after undergoing mastectomy to remove the other left more than a few people teary-eyed, and now kindhearted strangers who were touched by the picture have pitched in to pay her medical bills.

Sarah, 31, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer halfway through her pregnancy. She had one breast removed while carrying her son and had to undergo chemotherapy before she was induced at 36 weeks. Fortunately, her son was born healthy but she still faced a hefty medical bill.

A gofundme page was opened for her and strangers have pitched in to help, so far, £5100 has been raised. Meanwhile other mums have even been donating their own breast milk after Sarah had to stop breastfeeding two weeks after Kal-El was born to continue with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

"There have been 27 women who've donated milk to feed my son. And he's amazing. I keep saying God must know I want him on breast milk, because he's not picky. He will take anyone's milk," Sarah told Today .

Kal-El is now six months old and Sarah is recovering at home.

Man tells a hospital janitor about his dying wife she says 3 words that changed everything

When Dan Scott’s wife, Trish, was rushed to the hospital, he prepared for the worst. And when doctors informed him of their prognosis, he became even more distraught.
Trish had suffered a brain aneurysm and was in a coma. Several days later, doctors informed Dan that Trish had experienced a stroke that would leave her partially paralyzed. Life was looking grim.
According to the Tennesseean, Dan spent day and night by his wife’s side at the hospital, only leaving briefly to take walks around the hospital.

During one of his walks, he encountered Genevieve Ruiz, a Mexican member of the cleaning staff. Since he had participated in mission work in Honduras, he said hello in Spanish. Ruiz was taken aback, and asked him why he had spoke to her. He explained that he was a Spanish speaker and just wanted to be polite.

At that point, Ruiz inquired as to why he was heading towards the ICU with such sadness. He informed her of Trish’s situation and exclaimed that his wife was going to die.
Noshe’s not,” Ruiz said matter-of-factly.
Dan asked her how she knew and she replied simply, “I know.”
“Stop grieving. She’s going to walk out of there. She’s going to be Okay,” Ruiz told him.
Dan wasn’t sure how or why, but for some reason he believed what she was saying. Once Ruiz spoke to him he believed that his wife would be okay, that she would walk out of the hospital.
“I know there are a lot of false claims and insanity in religion,” Dan explained. “But something in her made me think she’s right.”
And right she was. Six days later, Trish came out of her coma and a year later she had made a full recovery.

Dan strongly believes that on that day, when he was so down and helpless, God spoke to him. Through Ruiz, God spoke to him.
“Mostly God’s work happens away from church. Genevieve helped me with that. She pushes a mop. She’s not even a doctor, but she was a gracious human being who wasn’t just working the clock,” he said. “She was every bit the servant of God that I was.”
He knows that running into Ruiz and greeting her in Spanish wasn’t a chance happening. And as outlandish as her words seemed at the time, he knew he just needed to believe.
“Something in me just believed that,” he said. “That’s the voice I needed that day.
